Your Gadget Fix-Verizon Droid

Wirefly: Free T-Mobile Cell Phones + Free FedEx Shipping for current or new customers

This highly-anticipated smartphone was just released by Verizon.   This phone is the answer to Apple’s Iphone and the specs are quite impressive.  You know this phone has to be pretty amazing if Google, Verizon and Motorola collaborated to produce it.  The phone runs on the Android 2.0 operating system.  The retail value for this phone is $199.99 and requires a two-year contract.

Here Are the General Specs

Dimensions: 2.4 x 4.6 x .5 in

Weight: 6 ounces

  • CDMA 1X 800/1900, EVDO rev. A connectivity
  • 550 MHz CPU
  • Android 2.0 (Eclair) OS
  • 3.7″ WVGA (480 x 854 pixels); 16:9 widescreen; PPI 267 touchscreen display
  • 5mpx camera with 4x digital zoom, autofocus, image stabilization, dual LED flash and up to 24 fps; D1 (720×480) resolution video capture
  • QWERTY side slide keyboard
  • Accelerometer, aGPS and sGPS support, proximity and ambient light sensors
  • Wi-Fi b/g, Stereo Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR, USB 2.0 high speed with micro USB connector, 3.5 mm headset jack
  • 16 GB microSD pre-installed
  • Webkit HTML5 support (expected to kill off Flash soon), Flash 10 (avail.2010)
  • 270 hrs. standby and 385 mins talk time

Here Are the Standout Features

  • Ability to run two applications simultaneously
  • Replaceable battery
  • Supports Google Services
  • DVD quality playback/capture
  • Runs the Cortex-A8

My favorite feature on the phone is multi-tasking capabilities.  Users should know that if you attempt to cancel the contract within the two-year commitment, you will be billed $350 (seriously).   If using the Microsoft Exchange email server, you will have to subscribe to an additional data plan in addition to the regular unlimited data plan. It’s an exceptional phone on an exceptional network.  As always, if you have any feedback on the Droid, I’d love to hear it!  Feel free to post it here!

“… the Droid is the most sophisticated mobile device to hit the market to date from a hardware standpoint.”
