I am rooting for Sarah Palin to really find a home at the helm of the Tea Party movement. No, I don’t take her seriously, but apparently the people behind this movement do. I am hoping that from this fledgling movement will emerge a viable third party of sorts, as their political views sit to the right of the Republican Party. If this movement should really take root and flourish, the leading faces and most controversial voices of the Republican Party could likely realign themselves with this movement. Since many of the leading conservative voices in media aren’t happy with the Republicans, maybe they will throw their support behind Palin. This would give the Republican Party the perfect opportunity to rebrand itself in a more diverse way and maybe the movement will get Republicans to seriously consider diversifying their brand to make it more appealing to minorities. If Palin is to be the head of this movement, then Republicans will have to reach out to the more competent women within the party and elevate them to prominent roles to show the public that they, too, take women seriously. The Tea Party could be the key to creating a third party system. This could lead to a bevy of parties, thus diluting the influence of the large and ineffective parties that currently run our political system.
This Tea Party movement could be a win-win for all Americans. It could cleanse the Republican Party of the less desirable and more extreme conservative voices. The Republicans would also have the opportunity to rebrand themselves, since it is known as the party of old white men. Palin can have her moment in the spotlight and be a part of a movement where she is taken seriously. The Democrats would have to work together in a more productive manner because they could no longer be reliant on certain demographics for votes. The Independents can draw both of the main parties to the middle where the rest of America is and toward a true people-driven agenda.
